Overnight you were missing – we thought gone forever;
kidnapped, or worse And searched yards and parks, streets,
the dog pound – everywhere we could think to look.
And no-one slept that night; we put your bed on the stoop
in case you came home on your own…then lay on the couch,
just inside the door – listening, weeping, hearts hurting
In the morning, one last try – a call to the pound –
a voice described you, said yes, they had you –
Unbelievably, they’d had you all night-
Your wee betrayed eyes, accusing face, said it all…
